WHAT THIS IS
ONSM brings Nepali communities across Oceania together through sport — celebrating shared heritage, identity, friendship, inclusion and sportsmanship. We're now creating an official flag and anthem to give that spirit a lasting form: symbols that connect participants, supporters and the generations who follow.

THE FLAG — Design the official flag
A simple, bold and timeless flag, made to fly at every future ONSM.
- Reflects Nepali heritage without copying existing national symbols

- 2:3 ratio · up to three solid colours · no text or acronyms
- Vector artwork (.AI, .EPS or .PDF) plus a PNG preview, with a 300-word design statement

THE ANTHEM — Compose the official anthem
An uplifting, singable rally cry for ceremonies and crowds.

- Nepali-and-English format · around 90–120 seconds
- Two stages: submit lyrics first — music comes later
- Lyricists welcome; you don't need to compose or sing to enter

WHAT EVERY ENTRY NEEDS

Original & human-made: Every entry must be your own original work, not copied or derived from an existing flag, logo, song or anthem.

Open to everyone: Open to the Nepali community and the wider public. Entrants under 18 need parent or guardian consent. One entry per person or team, per competition.

You keep your rights: Copyright stays with you. Only the winning creator grants ONSM the rights to use their work officially — confirmed in writing.

No generative AI: AI-generated artwork, lyrics, melody or full-track rendering will not be accepted. Shortlisted entrants may be asked to show sketches, drafts, working files or version history as evidence of their creative process.
HOW IT RUNS
The anthem runs in two stages: Stage 1 asks only for your lyrics and a short creative statement — no recording needed. If shortlisted, you're invited into Stage 2 to develop the melody, and you may team up with a musician or vocalist. This lets strong writers enter without being composers.
Enter (Now → 31 Oct 2026): Submit your flag design, or your anthem lyrics, by email with your completed entry declaration form.
Shortlist (after close): The selection committees review entries against the published criteria and shortlist the strongest work.
Stage 2 — Music (anthem only): Shortlisted lyricists develop a simple demo melody, with a collaborator if they wish.
Selection & sign-off: Winners are chosen and confirmed by the ONSM Patrons and Oceania Coordinating Committee, then produced for official use.
FAQs
Do I need to compose music to enter the anthem?
No. Stage 1 is lyrics only. If your lyrics are shortlisted, you'll be invited to develop the melody in Stage 2 — and you can collaborate with a musician or vocalist for that part.
Can I enter both the flag and the anthem?
Yes. They're judged separately and each has its own AUD $500 prize. You may submit one entry per competition.
Can under-18s take part?
Yes, with consent from a parent or guardian.
Is AI allowed anywhere in my entry?
No. All artwork, lyrics, melody and production must be human-created. Shortlisted entrants may be asked to show their working as evidence.
Who owns my work if I don't win?
You do. Copyright stays with you for all non-winning entries. Being shortlisted doesn't transfer ownership — ONSM may only display shortlisted work for judging and promotion.
What does the winner agree to?
The winning creator grants ONSM an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide licence (or assigns copyright, per the final terms) so the flag or anthem can be used officially across Oceania. Minor production or accessibility adjustments may be made while preserving your intent.
